Value investing portfolio update July 2016

As with all investment, execution is key.... and controlling your emotion is key to investment execution.

It seems like a simple enough task to just purchase 20 value stocks that was selected based on a set of criteria.

I have already setup my standard chartered trading account. I have my 20 odd value stocks selected. So just log in, click and purchase... Done!

If only it was that simple. I took about 3 months and I only purchased 13 stocks.

The reason is because i was too emotionally attached to the historical stock prices. Some of the value stocks actually increased by more than 5% before i can purchase and they went on to increase to more than 50%. IPC corporation and Fischer Tech are 2 examples.

Anyways it was painstaking to monitor the price of the 20 stocks and when the price is close to the price when the list was generated, the stock was purchased.

Another issue with value stocks is that usually their volume is low. There might not be any transaction for some of the stocks for a few days. In order to achieve a equal weighted portfolio, I have to wait about a month or 2 before i can accumulate enough. This will be more difficult to execute once Standard Chartered charge a minimum trading fee of $10.

So after about 3 months, below are the list of 13 stocks i managed to purchase.
So far in approximate 5 months after the first stock purchase, the dividend income and capital gain at a portfolio level is about the same at 2%.

I decided to stop at 13 and will monitor and re-balance them early 2017.
