One of the things I often hear from people around me is that they cannot find affordable financial advice in Singapore.
Most financial advisors here are either tied to insurance companies or banks, which means they earn a commission from whatever they sell you. The advice you get may not always be in your best interest. On the other hand, fee-based independent advisors do exist, but their fees can run into hundreds of dollars, which may not make sense for most of us.
So it is not easy to get good and affordable financial advice in Singapore. This is especially difficult for lower who just cannot afford it or middle-income earners like me who doesn't have enough net worth to justify paying thousands a year for a financial planner.
The good news is that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has changed this.
Using AI as Your Free Financial Advisor
We now have access to very powerful Large Language Models (LLMs) for free! All you need is an email address to register an account.
Tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini and DeepSeek are trained on a huge amount of financial knowledge, including Singapore-specific topics like CPF, insurance, HDB financing and retirement planning. They can ask you the right questions, help you think through your financial situation and areas you may not have considered.
Think of it as a free first opinion before you decide whether to seek a paid one.
The Prompt to Use
Once you have signed up with your preferred AI platform, just paste the following prompt to get started:
"You are Singapore's top financial adviser. I need advice on my financial situation. Please ask me a series of questions you need to help you advise me on the financial steps I will need to take. Ask the questions 1 by 1 and treat it like a conversation we are having as you are finding out more about my current financial situation."
I have personally tried this with DeepSeek, Google Gemini and ChatGPT and the results are pretty good. They cover CPF planning, emergency funds, insurance gaps, retirement projections and more. All without trying to sell you anything.
Where to Sign Up
Here are the main AI platforms you can try, all free to sign up:
- ChatGPT: chat.openai.com
- Google Gemini: gemini.google.com
- DeepSeek: chat.deepseek.com
- Claude (Anthropic): claude.ai
A Note of Caution
Do note that AI financial advice does have its limitations.
AI tools are not licensed financial advisors under MAS (Monetary Authority of Singapore) and cannot be held accountable for their advice. The information they provide may also not reflect the latest changes to CPF policies or government schemes, so always verify specific details with official sources like cpf.gov.sg or moneysense.gov.sg.
Also, the quality of the advice depends a lot on what you share with the AI. The more specific and honest you are about your financial situation, the more useful the output will be.
For more complex situations involving estate planning, business ownership or significant assets, it is still worth consulting a qualified human advisor.
Use AI as a starting point and as a second opinion, not as your only source of guidance.
Final Thoughts
Free and quality financial advice in Singapore is no longer out of reach. With the right prompt and a free account, you can walk through a structured financial review covering CPF, insurance, savings and more, at your own pace, without being sold a single product.
Do try it out if you are interested and hopefully it can give you the second or third opinion you need for you to take charge of your financial situation.
